starting out ... some history
M.T. Agricultural Engineering (Mascall & Tinsley) came into being in 1975 when Norman Mascall returned from the Middle East after having worked for the Howard Rotorvator Company who were based at Benfleet, Essex in the 1950's, 1960's & early 1970's. Norman had worked his way up from an Apprentice to the position of Sales Manager, but left Howards & set up his own concern manufacturing gravel carts & spare parts for various makes of trencher for the land drainage industry, initially joined by Mr. Tinsley, who soon parted company with Norman, but Norman carried on the M.T. company name.
Norman used to make trenching machine sprockets on a lathe & milling machine & then transport them in a rucksack on his motorbike from his workshop in Great Dunmow, Essex to Chelmsford railway station to put them on the Red Star parcel service sending parts as far afield as Scotland & Northern Ireland.
Imagine how your back felt with two or three trencher sprockets attached to it in a rucksack while riding a motorcycle!
Norman was very dedicated & went on to do greater things, as you can see below.
I, Paul Beal of Gravel Carts U.K., started out with Norman in September 1986 at M.T. Engineering, at this time Norman had already produced around 400 units.
M.T. continued to grow, producing the Moxy 3212B A.D.T. in some numbers (150 units or so) for the Brown Anglo Scan Equipment group, when B.A.S.E. went bust in March 1990, Norman produced concrete pumps for Keller Concrete, Sand Skimmers for Essex & Suffolk Water & even Fairground rides. In 1994 he was approached by DDT Engineering to produce a 30 tonne 6 x 6 ejector truck & after a good run of a.d.t. model development, in 1997 Norman sold his shares to Gordon Brown & retired from M.T. Engineering.
I departed from M.T. Engineering in 1998 & after a short spell with Rayner J.C.B., founded Aardvark Equipment Ltd.
Gravel Carts U.K. is a trading name of Aardvark Equipment Ltd. which brings us to the present.
